Reiki: 7 Basics of this Powerful Healing Modality

Reiki is a Japanese healing modality that utilizes life force energy. Often times energy healing and Reiki are used interchangeably but they are not the same. Reiki is the purity of the flow of energy and Energy Healing often introduces other tools such as crystals, oils, light language etc. Reiki is quite often the first energy attunement that energy healers receive. They then move on to add other modalities to their tool belt. It’s also not uncommon to find out that people were attuned in a past life.  If you feel like you are called to learn this energy modality this is probably you. It’s just about reconnecting to that energy and knowing.

How to pronounce Reiki and what is its meaning?

Reiki is a form of alternative energy healing, and it includes the channeling of Universal Life Energy by the practitioner to the client.  It can be done hands on or off, in person or distance and it helps with relaxation and a balance of the mental, physical, spiritual and emotional parts of us.   It is pronounced ray key.  Rei is best interpreted as God’s Wisdom or the Higher power and the interpretation of ki is “Universal Life Energy.”

What happens during a Reiki Session?

During a session, a practitioner works to restore, replenish and regulate the energy flow of the chakras.  It works on the body, mind and spirit by stimulating the body’s own natural healing abilities.  When you go into a session, you want to remember that you are co-creating the experience. There’s you, the practitioner and the Universe. All three participate. Yes, you can be unconscious and still participate because your higher self (energetic body) gives permission to the practitioner to do a session. No session is ever done without permission by the recipient.  It is a loving energy and can cause no harm.

Reiki and the chakras

The focus during a session is the seven main energy centers of the body called chakras. Each chakra is associated with particular emotional, physical and spiritual and mental characteristics. Each chakra also has a particular purpose. The practitioner utilizes energy to support the chakras to spin smoothly. During a session, the work is to help chakras that aren’t balanced become balanced. How do you know if your chakra’s are balanced?

Using a pendulum to gauge Reiki energy

A practitioner will sometimes use a pendulum to note if the chakras are stagnant, spinning backwards, too quickly, slowly or just as they should be. The pendulum is a tool that allows the practitioner to get a read on the chakra energy before the session and it can be used during and after the session to see the progress of the energy flow of the chakras.

How Reiki is like the flow of a river

Think about a flowing river that gets jammed up with logs (life events, illness, emotions). The water can wind up flooding over the banks and causing destruction. At times the water can still flow, but it has to work harder and compensate to move along.  During a session that flow is restored so that energy can move with ease and energy that is flowing out where it’s not in your best interest is redirected.

Conversely, we have rivers that become raging with water flow because of the impact of a recent deluge of rain (high emotions and stress).  The result is water that is capitulating all over the place with no clear direction and it’s taking things out as it rages. During a session, a practitioner brings your energy back to a natural flow. This way you aren’t running over others with all of your emotions and feelings.

Ways a Reiki healing session can help

This healing tool that can be used for the very basic desire of relaxation or for deeper work such as removing energy that’s stuck and causing physical, spiritual and emotional challenges.  We live in a world that’s lout and constantly throwing things our way (unless we make sure we unplug). A healing session can be a time where you relax and focus on yourself. Taking time to relax is imperative for a healthy life.

There are layers to healing. One session might be great for relaxation but if you are looking to work with challenges that go deeper, it may take many sessions. There are things that happened years ago that are buried in our muscle memories or energetic memories that take time to heal. It’s like peeling layers of an onion. In addition, if we have triggers, they will continue to get triggered until we do the healing of that wound. Think of it like piling on top of the pile.

Sessions can also help heal generational trauma and wounds. When you are doing energetic healing, you are not only healing yourself but the generations that came before you and the generations that are yet to come.

I believe in what I say here. I get a healing session monthly and I have for years.
